Bulk jobs
Last updated 03/11/2026
A bulk job runs your script once per work item matched by a JQL, in the background, so there is no browser timeout. Dry run is respected, so you can rehearse a 10,000-item change before making it.
Start a bulk job
- In the Console, write a script that handles one work item (
context.issue). - Under Or run it across many work items now (bulk job), enter the JQL. The box autocompletes and validates as you type.
- Turn on Dry run for a rehearsal, then click Start bulk job.
- Follow progress on the Bulk jobs tab: status, processed and failed counts, and up to 20 error samples.
- Click Cancel at any time to stop the job.
- When the rehearsal looks right, run it again with Dry run off.
Good to know
- Work items are processed in the background until the JQL is exhausted, up to 50,000 per job.
- A batch may occasionally be retried, so a work item can be processed more than once. Write scripts that are safe to repeat where that would matter.
context.issuecarriessummary, status, assignee, priority, issuetype. Fetch more inside the script if needed.
Every JQL box in Scriptline autocompletes like Jira's own search bar (fields, operators, live value suggestions) and validates as you type, showing Jira's exact error.
