Get started

Scriptline is a Jira Cloud app for writing automation in TypeScript or JavaScript instead of a proprietary scripting language. Scripts run from a console, automatically on ten kinds of work-item events, on a schedule, behind a JQL search function, as a computed field, or across thousands of work items as a bulk job. Every run records its logs, timing, result and line-numbered errors, replayable at any time.
Install and first run
- Install. A Jira administrator opens Apps → Explore more apps in Jira, searches for Scriptline and chooses Get it now (or starts the free trial). The app installs through Atlassian Forge: no separate download, no external service.
- Approve the permissions: read and write work items, read user profiles, and app storage for your scripts. No external network access is requested.
- Open Scriptline under Jira Settings (⚙) → Apps → Scriptline - Scripts, Listeners & JQL. Only users with the Administer Jira permission can open the app.
- Run the sample. The Console comes pre-filled. Click Run and expect a green OK with your display name and recent work items.
Save your first hook
- In the Console, under When should it run?, pick a trigger, for example Work item created.
- Under What should it do?, pick a starter example or write your own script.
- Turn on Dry run and click Run to rehearse. Writes are logged, not sent.
- Under Save it, give the hook a name, leave Enable this hook on save on and click Save hook.
- Create a work item in a matching project, then open Run history to see what the hook did.
Finding your way
The sidebar mirrors the feature set: Overview (live counts and shortcuts), Console (write and run), Listeners, Scheduled hooks, JQL functions, Scripted field, Bulk jobs, All hooks and Run history. Each feature tab lists its own hooks, and its "New ..." button opens the Console with the right trigger preselected.
